Why a second infection is the concern
There are four dengue serotypes. Recovering from one gives lasting protection against that serotype only, and a later infection with a different one carries a higher risk of severe dengue than the first did. That is the reverse of the usual pattern, and it is the central fact in deciding about the vaccine.
It is also why dengue is not simply a bad fever to be got through. For a household in an endemic area, the second episode is the one to plan around.
The dengue vaccine schedule
Eligibility depends on age and on your dengue history, and the current schedule and product are confirmed at the consultation rather than assumed from a web page.

Who should discuss the dengue vaccine first
The first three rule it out. The last is not a bar at all, but it changes the recommendation, so say so.
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding, where it is generally avoided
- Significant immunocompromise, whether from illness or from medication such as long-term steroids or chemotherapy
- A previous dengue infection, and roughly when it was
A previous infection is relevant to the recommendation rather than an automatic bar, and it is one of the first things asked at the consultation.
What it does not replace
No dengue vaccine is fully protective, so mosquito control remains part of the answer rather than an alternative to it: repellent, screens, and clearing standing water around the house.
A fever with severe headache, pain behind the eyes, or bleeding gums needs seeing regardless of vaccination status.

The clinic is clean, the staff are professional and welcoming, incredibly efficient. The clinic interior design also calming and made my visits less anxious. The doctors here (Dr. Chan & Dr. Kon - sorry if misspelled) are very attentive, explain briefly to me what the do's and don'ts on after care treatments and for future preventions. I also just learned that this clinic is specialized in skin problems and i refer my dry and ictchy skin problems on my fingers. I've been put some plasters to hide the crack and dry skin for months.
