Shockwave therapy for erectile dysfunction in KL

A non-invasive treatment that uses gentle sound waves to improve blood flow, for mild to moderate erection problems. It suits some men well and others not at all, which is why it starts with an assessment.

  • Non-invasiveno needles and no anaesthetic
  • No downtimeback to your day straight after
  • A courseseveral short sessions over a few weeks
  • Assessed firstto check it suits the cause

Who shockwave therapy may suit

It works on blood flow, so it suits erection problems that come from blood flow. The assessment before a course is there to check that yours does.

  • Mild to moderate erectile dysfunction
  • Erection trouble linked to reduced blood flow, such as with diabetes or high blood pressure
  • Tablets work only partly, or you would rather not rely on them
  • You have had the underlying causes checked

It is less likely to help severe erectile dysfunction, or erection trouble from nerve damage, such as after prostate surgery. The doctor will say so if that is you.

How shockwave therapy works

Low-intensity shockwave therapy, sometimes called Li-ESWT, uses sound waves rather than needles or drugs.

Gentle sound waves
A small probe passes low-energy acoustic waves through the shaft of the penis. You feel a light tapping.
Aimed at blood flow
The waves are meant to encourage new small blood vessels and better blood flow, which is what an erection depends on.
Builds over weeks
Where it helps, the change comes gradually in the weeks after a course, not after a single session.

What a course involves

  1. An assessment first

Your history, an erection score (IIEF-5), blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol, so the treatment matches the cause.

  2. Each session

You lie down, a gel is applied and the probe is moved along the shaft for about 15 to 20 minutes. No needles, no anaesthetic.

  3. The course

Usually around six sessions, once or twice a week. The doctor sets the number with you.

  4. A review

Your erection score is repeated after the course, so you can both see what has changed.

What to expect, and what this page will not claim

Reasonable to hope for

  • Better erections in mild, blood-flow related erectile dysfunction, for some men
  • Tablets working better, or being needed less
  • A treatment with few side effects, at most brief redness or mild discomfort

What this page will not claim

  • That it works for every man
  • Results after one session
  • Help for severe erectile dysfunction or nerve damage
  • That the effect lasts for ever; some men need a repeat course

The EMS chair, for the pelvic floor

The clinic also uses an EMS chair. You sit on it fully clothed while focused electromagnetic energy makes the pelvic floor muscles contract strongly, many times over in one session.

Stronger pelvic floor muscles help with control, which is why the chair can sit alongside shockwave in a men's programme, and in treatment for premature ejaculation. Its evidence for erections is still young, and the doctor will say whether it suits you.

What else the clinic does about this

This stays between you and your doctor

Private and non-judgmental, whatever your gender, orientation or relationship status.
Your records
Encrypted in the clinic's own system, and only you can authorise access to them. Clinic staff cannot retrieve your results without your explicit consent.
Your name
You do not have to give one to be seen. Patients who would rather test anonymously can do so.
Your doctor
Every doctor here is named on this site with their training, and one of them is a Family Medicine Specialist on the National Specialist Register. Follow-up questions and repeat prescriptions go to the doctor who saw you, directly on WhatsApp rather than through a front desk.

Common questions

Does shockwave therapy hurt?
Most men feel a light tapping and little else. No anaesthetic is needed, and you can go straight back to your day.
How many sessions will I need?
Usually around six, once or twice a week. The doctor sets the number with you after the assessment.
When will I notice a difference?
Not straight away. Where it helps, the change builds over the weeks after the course, which is why the review comes after it.
Can I keep taking my ED tablets?
Usually, yes. Some men find their tablets work better after a course, and some need them less.
Is it the same as the P-Shot?
No. The P-Shot injects platelet-rich plasma from your own blood. Shockwave therapy uses sound waves and involves no injection. The doctor can talk you through which suits you, or whether to combine them.
