PRP knee injection and stem cell therapy in KL

A PRP knee injection uses your own platelet-rich plasma, stem cells, or both together, to treat knee osteoarthritis. A single session takes 30 to 35 minutes and needs no downtime.

  • 30-35 minthe whole appointment
  • No downtimeback to your day afterwards
  • Your own bloodno allergic or immune reaction
  • Outpatientan injection, not surgery

PRP, stem cells, and how they differ

The names get used interchangeably and they are not the same treatment. Which one suits your knee is decided at the assessment.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP)
Your own blood, spun in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets and remove the other cells, then injected into the joint. The concentrate carries growth factors, cytokines and mesenchymal stem cells.
Stem cell therapy
Cells injected into the joint cavity to encourage growth of new cartilage cells, and to release cytokines that damp down the inflammation driving the pain.
The two together
The growth factors in the plasma support the injected cells, and the response is stronger than either alone. This combined protocol is what the clinic uses for established knee osteoarthritis.
Why it comes from you
Because the material is your own, there is no allergic or immune reaction to it. That is the practical argument for PRP over anything introduced from outside.

What a PRP knee injection involves

The whole appointment runs about 30 to 35 minutes, is done in the clinic, and needs no recovery time before you go back to your day.

  1. Consultation and assessment

The state of the joint is what decides whether any injection therapy is reasonable, and which one to start with.

  2. A blood draw

Where PRP is part of the plan. About 40ml, taken at the start of the appointment.

  3. Preparation

The plasma is spun down while you wait, separating the platelets from the rest of the blood.

  4. The injection

Into the joint. It is an injection rather than surgery, and there is little discomfort during it.

Worth asking about if any of these apply

This is for knees that hurt because they have worn rather than because something tore last week.

  • Knee osteoarthritis, diagnosed or suspected
  • Pain that has outlasted physiotherapy and pain relief
  • Tendinosis or fasciitis that has not settled
  • Joint replacement has been raised and you would rather postpone that conversation
  • You want an option that is not surgery and not an indefinite course of painkillers

It is not a substitute for surgery in advanced disease. Whether it suits your knee depends on the assessment, and that is a straight answer you will get at it.

Who you are dealing with

Your doctor
Every doctor here is named on this site with their training, and one of them is a Family Medicine Specialist on the National Specialist Register. You are seen by a doctor rather than assessed at a counter.
Your records
Held in the clinic's own encrypted system rather than on paper in a drawer, so the doctor seeing you has the rest of your history in front of them.
Your follow-up
Questions afterwards and repeat prescriptions go to the doctor who saw you, directly on WhatsApp rather than through a front desk.
Your time
Walk in any day until 8pm. The clinic has served Kepong Baru since 1981 and most of what is on this page is done in one visit.

Come in, or ask first

Common questions

Is PRP safe?
PRP is prepared from your own blood, so there is no risk of an allergic or immune reaction to the material itself.
How long does a session take?
About 30 to 35 minutes from blood draw to injection, with no downtime afterwards.
Does it hurt?
There is little discomfort during the procedure. It is an injection, not surgery.
Can this replace knee replacement surgery?
It is not a substitute for surgery in advanced disease, but for many people with knee osteoarthritis it reduces pain and improves mobility enough to postpone or avoid that decision. Whether it suits your knee depends on the assessment.
