Low testosterone and TRT in Kepong, KL

Low drive, tiredness, fewer morning erections. Low testosterone is one possible reason, and a morning blood test tells you whether it is yours. If it is, we look for the cause, and use testosterone therapy only when it is needed.

  • Test firsta morning blood test before any treatment
  • TRTonly when it is clinically indicated
  • Monitoredregular blood checks while on treatment
  • Walk inno appointment needed

Worth having your testosterone checked if

Low testosterone shows up as a cluster of changes rather than one symptom. Several of these together, lasting months, is the usual reason men come in.

  • Your sex drive has dropped
  • Fewer morning erections, or trouble with erections
  • Tiredness that sleep does not fix
  • Low mood, irritability or poorer concentration
  • Losing muscle while gaining fat around the middle
  • You have type 2 diabetes or carry a lot of weight around the waist

Every item on this list has other possible causes, from poor sleep to thyroid problems to depression. That is why the doctor tests rather than guesses.

When testosterone counts as low

One blood result is not a diagnosis. The doctor looks for three things together.

  1. Symptoms

Changes like the ones above, lasting for months.

  2. and

    A low morning level

Blood taken early in the day, when testosterone is at its highest.

  3. and

    Confirmed on a repeat test

Levels vary from day to day, so one low result is not enough.

  4. together:

    Low testosterone

Then the doctor looks for the cause before talking about treatment.

What lowers testosterone

Often something that can be changed. Sometimes a problem in the testes or the pituitary gland that needs looking into.

Often reversible

  • Excess weight, especially around the waist
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Poor sleep, including sleep apnoea
  • Heavy drinking
  • Some medicines, such as opioid painkillers and steroids
  • A recent serious illness, or long-running stress

Needs looking into

  • Damage to the testes, from injury, mumps or past surgery
  • Pituitary problems, such as a raised prolactin level
  • Genetic conditions, such as Klinefelter syndrome
  • A steady fall with age that is larger than usual

How low testosterone is treated

Treatment starts with the cause. Testosterone itself comes in only when it is needed.

Treating the cause
Losing weight, sleeping better, controlling diabetes or changing a medicine can raise testosterone on its own.
Testosterone therapy (TRT)
As injections or a gel, prescribed only when low testosterone is confirmed and causing symptoms.
Regular monitoring
Testosterone level, blood count and PSA are checked at intervals, so the dose stays safe.
When TRT is not suitable
If you are planning children, because TRT lowers sperm production. Also with prostate or breast cancer, or untreated severe sleep apnoea.

What happens at the testosterone check

  1. Your history

What has changed and for how long, your sex drive and erections, sleep, mood, weight, medicines and whether you plan to have children.

  2. A morning blood test

Testosterone with SHBG, plus LH, FSH, prolactin and TSH, so the doctor can see where a low level is coming from.

  3. Results, explained

Alongside your weight, blood pressure and blood sugar. A low result is repeated before anything is decided.

  4. A plan, then follow-up

Treating the cause, TRT where it is indicated, or both. Reviewed at 6 to 12 weeks with the relevant tests repeated.

Common questions

What is a normal testosterone level?
Each laboratory reports its own reference range. The doctor reads your result together with your symptoms and a repeat test, rather than against a single cut-off.
Is andropause real?
Andropause, or male menopause, is the popular name for testosterone falling with age. Unlike menopause the fall is slow, and a large drop usually has another cause worth finding, such as weight, diabetes or sleep apnoea.
Will TRT affect my fertility?
Yes. Testosterone therapy lowers sperm production, sometimes to zero. If you are planning children, tell the doctor, because there are other ways to manage it.
Do testosterone boosters from the pharmacy or online work?
Most supplements sold as boosters do not raise testosterone in a meaningful way. Products sold for muscle building can contain anabolic steroids, which carry real risks.
Once I start TRT, is it for life?
Not always. Where the cause can be treated, such as weight or sleep apnoea, testosterone may recover and therapy can be reviewed. Where the cause is permanent, treatment is usually long term, with regular checks.
